OBJECTIVES

  • Strengthen and promote the development of research projects that focus on the conservation and management of natural resources found within watersheds, through agreements and coordination mechanisms involving all three levels of government and academic, social and private sectors.
  • Identify, design and elaborate concepts and methods for developing studies and projects related to integrated watershed management.
  • Formulate public policy proposals for integrated watershed managemen

  • Integrated study of the Lerma – Chapala watershed
    • Environmental and socio-economic diagnostic
    • Identification of priority areas for the region’s eco-rehabilitation
    • Inventory of reservoirs and bordos
    • Study of municipal environmental management
    • Enforcement of industrial regulation
  • Evaluation of water as an environmental service
  • National water regionalization
  • Studies on environmental decentralization in Mexico
  • Impact of public policies on the environment
  • Systematization of successful cases of integrated watershed management in Mexico
  • Vulnerability, urban conflicts and sustainable water management in Mexico
  • Geo-parks

Several of these projects have been carried out in conjunction with academic institutions and NGOs, with the aim of providing decision makers (legislators, state, municipal and other government institutions linked to the environmental sector) with the technical base of information they require.
