The characteristics of the Office are in accordance with the current Internal Rules of SEMARNAT, which were published in the Official Diary of the Federation on January 21, 2003:

VII. Forge collaborative links with similar research centers established in other countries and increase technical cooperation on themes related to contamination prevention and control, and hazardous waste management, with the participation of the Executive Body for Judicial Issues and Institutional Links.

X. Provide the competent administrative bodies of the Ministry with the best analytical methods and quality control and assurance procedures for the measurement and characterization of atmospheric contaminants.

XIV. Generate, provide and disseminate scientific information about the presence and quantity of contaminants and hazardous waste in the soil and the air at the national level.

XV. Organize, in coordination with the competent administrative bodies of the Ministry, technical and scientific training programs on the topics of atmospheric contamination, solid and hazardous waste management, and analytical techniques for Mexican professionals working in the public, private and academic sectors.
